New York is a real life movie set. It's hard to walk anywhere without seeing a scene from 'Ghostbusters' or 'Sleepless in Seattle'. There are so many attractions in one city from the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty to tranquil Central Park. It's difficult to get lost in New York as the streets are laid out into a grid format and even if you do just find the nearest subway or grab a yellow cab! Downtown Manhattan consists of Battery Park city, Tribeca, Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, SoHo, Little India, Greenwich Village etc. To the east is the Hudson River where you will find the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. This great monument was a gift from the people of France and welcomed 12 million newcomers to America between 1892-1954. Her pointed finger alone is 8 ft long! There are regular ferries to and from the island. On return from the ferry the financial district is just around the corner where you can take a walk up Wall Street to see the New York Stock Exchange. Ground Zero now has two buildings in remembrance of September 11th.
If you're feeling energetic walk over to mid-town Manhattan. This place is buzzing with life and so much to see such as Madison Square Garden, Grand Central Station, Macy's department store for a spot of shopping! Rockefeller Centre, Chrysler building, Empire State Building and of course Times Square. Times square can get very busy therefore it is recommended visiting tourist information and planning what you want to do; whether it is seeing a Broadway show or visiting the many museums. There are plenty of places to eat in Times Square but make sure it is on your list in the evening to see all the lights and take in the atmosphere. In the upper town you will find Central Park. If the weathers nice hire a bike and cycle round otherwise take a casual stroll and look at the fountains, go ice-skating and have lunch in the 'Tavern on the Green'. Bloomingdales is around the corner and a fabulous place to go shopping. Make sure you visit FAO Schwartz 767 5th Ave, between 58th and 59th streets where you can play the huge piano featured in the film 'Big'.
Many airlines fly into New York to John F Kennedy (JFK), La Guardia and Newark.
